Buyers take gut-feelings very seriously.

If a buyer immediately sees something that they do not like, they may go on to have a lower opinion of everything else that they see. You want a buyer to walk up to your pathway or driveway already being impressed and excited. They will then be eager to see what else your property has to offer. Therefore, your front garden or driveway is very important for improving the chance of selling your home quickly. A tidy front garden with clean front door and windows, freshly painted fences and colourful flowers are recommended. However, this does not mean that you have to spend lots of money. Just keep things as clean and tidy as possible. Buyers will often redecorate or alter gardens when they have moved in!

Inside your home, make sure that all rooms are clutter-free.

Keep your whole home fresh and allow in as much natural light as possible, perhaps some flowers – people love fresh flowers!  In your kitchen, make sure that all of your worktops are clear and clean and the whole room smells fresh and hygienic.  If you have a pet, it may be wise to ask a friend or relative to look after them. You may consider your pet to be no problem however, not all buyers are animal-lovers and they may even be allergic. If they are pet lovers, maybe they’ll get so distracted by your cat that they’ll forget about your home!

When a buyer walks around your home, they must be able to imagine themselves living within your home.

This means that every room needs to appear to match its intended purpose. If your dining room contains items that do not match the idea of a dining room, such as exercise bikes and televisions, then remove them. This applies in every room around the house. You can return your items once viewings are over!  It might be hard, but you need to de-personalise your home for a little while.  Buyers want to see the potential for places in which they can place their furniture and items, not yours!  This includes your back garden. If your back garden embraces personal items like football goals, temporarily put them away for viewings. Conversely, if your home contains anything that may stand out to a buyer, such as a nice bathtub, a log burner, hidden storage or built-in wardrobes – show these items off! Make sure that these selling-points stand out by cleaning them and clearing the surrounding areas.
